Is there a way to move or copy all of my tasks from a normal project to a new scrum project?

I made a normal project and made all of my tasks in that however I wanted to move it all to a new scrum project that I made. What's the best way to do this?

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

I am sorry that the answer you got before was misleading - it was generated by an AI that has no understanding of your question or Atlassian software.

It's not a complex process, but there are some things you may need to think about.

The best way to do this is to search for the issues you want to move, and use the issue navigator's "bulk edit" option.  Your search is probably as simple as "project = xyz".

The things you need to think about are:

  • Permissions - you need to have "move" permission in the current project, and "create issue" in the target one
  • Configuration - Jira's move process will walk you through all of this, and only do the minimum it needs to, so it's not onerous.  But if your projects are configured differently, it is going to ask questions.  If for example, a field exists in the source project, but not the target, it will warn you that you are going to lose data.  If it's the other way around, that will be fine, unless you've made it mandatory in the target - Jira will ask you to provide data for the field because it is mandatory.  Or if your workflows are different, it's going to need you to map the old status on to the new.

Hi @Jagdeep Singh and welcome to the community!

While Jira does provide native options to move issues between projects, you might find the process more streamlined and efficient by using our Deep Clone for Jira marketplace app.

Here's a brief guide on how you can accomplish this:

  1. Using Jira's Native Functionality:
    a. Go to the 'Issue Navigator'.
    b. Search for the issues/project you want to move.
    c. Select the 'Bulk Change' option in the Actions Menu ···. (Limited to 1,000 issues at once)
    d. Follow the prompts to move them to the new scrum project.
  2. Using Deep Clone:
    a. Install the Deep Clone app from the Atlassian Marketplace.
    b. Navigate to Apps > Deep Clone > Bulk Clone.
    c. Select the project you want to clone.
    d. Select the new scrum project as the destination.
    e. Customize any additional fields as needed, and clone.

Deep Clone can save you time, especially when dealing with complex tasks that have sub-tasks, attachments, comments, etc. It also allows for more customization during the cloning process.

Feel free to start a free trial of Deep Clone from the Atlassian Marketplace and see if it fits your needs! If you have any further questions or need support, don't hesitate to reach out.
