Is there a way to add a 'custom query based field' to dimensions in EasyBI ?

I have created  custom field in Jira cloud that's based on a jql query (Eg: a custom field 'Status' created with a jql query that checks for multiple other field values). Now I want to use this custom query based field in EasyBI dimensions. Is there is a possibility ?

Hi @Ramesh Naidu Yegi and welcome to the Community!

It depends what type of custom field you created and if EazyBI supports it to be imported into an account. In short, there's 3 ways to get the field into your reports:

  • If it is a supported type of field, it will show up in your list of custom fields and you would just select it as if it was any other custom field;
  • EazyBI also offers something called advanced custom fields that allow you to add a calculated field during import and fill it with the desired data. Using javascript, you can perform calculations and - in this case - not just import the field itself, but perform the same logic during import so you get the desired data in your account.
  • Or, you can add calculated members to an existing dimension. In this case, you won't import your custom fields, but create a calculated member to an existing dimension based on other fields you already have in your report.

So, several options to achieve what you need. On a side note: I always recommend to think about this scenario at the core. If you want to do reporting on data that should be structured and you notice that it currently is not (so you need to start manipulating your data just to be able to create key reports), dare taking a look if you shouldn't bring this data into Jira using a structured custom field. In the end, that may turn out to be the better option ...

Hope this helps!
