I have been asked to create a custom field called "Application", which will be a required select field when creating any new tickets. My company may have 200+ different applications to choose from which presents a problem when using a select. I'd like to be able to limit the options in the select based on the project category.
If I go to modify the field, it allows me to make this new field Global -OR- "Apply to issues under selected projects". What I'd like to be able to do is to configure it by project category. This way, new projects only have to be given a project category to have the correct options presented when creating a ticket.
Does anyone know of any way to accomplish this?

You can not do it out of the box. And I think it is impossible on Cloud.
