Is there a plan to manually add an existing BitBucket branch to a JIRA ticket issue key in branch?

There was a question posted over a year ago referencing manually assigning BitBucket branches to a ticket.

Currently, the issue key must exist in the branch name for them to appear on the ticket.  Are there any plans to add this functionality?  It seems it is a popular request.
