I have Confluence and Jira both running and went through the integration piece, it looks like by default in Confluence there is an option in the upper left corner to switch to Jira.

Is there a similar option that can be added to the Jira page, so people can just click up in the left corner to switch over to Confluence?

Yes, please have a look on your JIRA instance at <Base_URL>plugins/servlet/customize-application-navigator.

If you have an application link between Confluence and JIRA the link to Confluence should already be there.
