Is the issue summary screen that it shown as a split screen on the Backlog view the same screen as the "view" screen. Custom fields that show up on view screen are not showing up on the split screen view.
The Issue detail view on the Board is different from the View screen. The detail view is configured under Board > Configure > Issue Detail View.
