Is the DVCS connector still relevant? How can I integrate Gitlab and JIRA cloud for smart commits?

Sandhya Kaimal March 3, 2019

We use JIRA cloud and Gitlab cloud in our organization.

I have been trying to get the development panel in JIRA for the smart commits to be displayed.

I have followed the steps in

https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/blob/8-13-stable/doc/project_services/jira.md

But that didn't solve my problem. Not able to view the commits/development panel on JIRA

Can someone help me with the procedure to get the integration up and running?

Hey Sandhya, welcome to Community!

The Gitlab setup for using the Development panel is on this document and calls out how to set up the DVCS accounts plugin. This is a separate document than the one it looks like you've used already to set up a Jira user to control comments/moving through a workflow.

The other document and DVCS account setup are still relevant in Jira Cloud. Gitlab gets around the fact that they are not natively supported in Jira Cloud by masquerading as a Github Enterprise server (matching the API endpoints that Jira expects to see with Github). Pretty clever, but also confusing to get set up unless you've found the other document.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Daniel

Thanks Daniel for your reply.

I have tried the steps mentioned in this document that you pointed.

At the step 2 of JIRA configuration, when I fill all the details required(client id, secret, user account etc), I get the error "This site cannot be reached" "The site has refused to connect"

Could you help me understand what is that I could be probably doing wrong?

Hey Sandhya,

Unfortunately I don't use Gitlab at all and can't troubleshoot any issues on their end. Since you mentioned you are using Gitlab Cloud, I can only assume that the Gitlab address you're putting in is accessible on the internet and not firewalled. In this case it sounds like Gitlab is not accepting the credentials you have or the instructions are incorrect. Both are issues that Gitlab will need to look at. I'd suggest trying their support at https://about.gitlab.com/support/

Cheers,
Daniel
