Is it possible to restrict special characters in 'Summary' field ?

We're looking to avoid pipes in the Jira summary, as this is causing git pull issues when branch is created using "Create branch" option from Jira and has pipes in the branch name. 

Is it possible to restrict specific characters in Summary field.

You'd have to have a listener or script to check input. Nothing is built in for that
