Is anyone having issues with copying/pasting information in Jira issues?

Cheri Hansen

Jira Cloud; Chrome

Here are 2 examples reported from a user:

  1. I am not always able to copy information from one story to another.  It is not happening all the time, but pretty regularly – maybe 80% of the time.  I have the issue with Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V, or with right-click Copy/Paste.  If I select information from one story, paste it into Notepad, and copy from Notepad into a story, I am successful.
  2. I can’t consistently copy a Jira URL from an address bar in one tab, and paste it in the URL address bar of another tab.  Sometimes after I copy the URL, open a tab, and attempt to Paste it, nothing happens.  Happens regularly – maybe 70% of the time.  I have no issues with other URL addresses I copy/paste between tabs.

Thank you!

Hi @Cheri Hansen

regarding your first issue, if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you might like JXL for Jira. It's a full-fledged table/spreadsheet view on your issues, in which copy/pasting between issue fields is a first-class feature.

E.g., this is how copy/pasting the issue status looks in action:

You can do this with practically any other issue field, too, and also between Jira and other applications (like Excel or Google Sheets).

(It's worth noting that JXL can do much more than that; e.g. inline issue creation, quick filtering and sorting, and support for issue hierarchies, just to name a few features. More info at https://jxl.app. Disclaimer: I work on JXL :))

Hope this helps,

Hannes
