Is Symantec Antivirus not supported on Jira server (on-prem setup on Windows 2012 server), came across the KB https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/anti-virus-in-jira-applications-398393384.html

It's more the case that Symantec Antivirus does not really support Java properly, and tends to harm the execution of such programs quite badly.

But yes, you should get rid of it if you're going to run Jira.  There are some others with better Java support, but even if you do go for them, you should exclude Jira from the scans.
