Is Atlassian planning to rename the term "Issue" to "Work Items" ?

LPK October 23, 2025

In March 2025, the Instructor Alex shared his view that Atlassian is going to rename the term "Issue" to "Work Items".

Personally, I am really fed-up calling tickets as issues even to a Story, Epic, Task etc.

All these types of work are called Issue types. That's a misnomer. I am not happy calling them as Issues. We are soon migrating from DC to Cloud. Hope some one from Atlassian is capable of changing this wrong terminology that is in usage for decades now.

Hi @LPK

Yes, Atlassian changed the term "issue" to "work item" to provide more consistent and inclusive language across its products.

You can see the following articles.

Thank you @Gor Greyan  for the response.

As we are moving to Cloud very soon from DC in the next few months, we are given some Jira Cloud training modules to complete. I see the instructor in the video is still referring the Work as Issue

Neverthless, I hope it is Work after we move to Cloud in reality.

Dear @LPK

Yes, not all materials have been updated yet. After you move to Cloud, you’ll start seeing “Work” instead of “Issue” across the interface.

Following, you can see the screen in our Cloud.
