Invitation email uses email username versus login name using LDAP authentication

We are using LDAP Active Directory to authenticate our JIRA users on Linux.  When the user receives the invite, and proceeds to the login screen (via the "Sign Up" button in the email), JIRA auto populates the username field with the LDAP email name versus the Linux login name.  For example there is a user First.M.Last@internal.com whose login name is lastf.  How can I change the signup screen to auto populate with the login name?

BTW.  Our workaround is to send the email as lastf@internal.com which is also an accepted email address for the user.
