In Next-Gen Project can I configure the Roadmap to set deadline for EPICs by quarter?

Mrinmoy Nath September 15, 2020

I am setting JIRA Next-Gen Project for my Design team. I see, there is timeline feature which can be set for each of the EPICs in the roadmap. We are utilising that to define the time taken to complete the EPIC. Since we need to complete the EPICs 1 month prior to development sprints. How will I know, if some EPICs are getting delayed in terms of development timeline? For eg, I know Q1 2021 is the quarter when development team will start working on Epic1. Can I see the same info in Roadmap as well?

Hello @Mrinmoy Nath,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

Thank you for the details, but I'm not sure I got the feature you need on the roadmap.

The roadmap has some filters, the date range, views, timeline, export, and share and it's not possible to customize those options.

There are some features suggesting improvements. I found some that might be interesting for you:

Feel free to share with us a screenshot or some other roadmap that has this feature, so we can better understand and raise a new feature suggesting this.

Regards,
Angélica

community feedback.pngIn the above Roadmap, I have set the Start and Due date for the EPIC which is October 1st to October 31st. This date range determines when the Design will be done. But the development team will start this project from December 1st. Can I set this December 1st in the timeline as the deadline? October 31st is the estimated due date, but need not be the deadline. If I have to see all the EPICs which are supposed to be completed before the deadline, i.e December 1st. How can I do it?

Thank you for the details, @Mrinmoy Nath.

The Date ranges in Roadmap are based on the Start and Due date and it's not possible to add different data ranges for the same Epic.

I believe that the feature that would best fit in this case would be the Milestones. This is currently not available for Roadmap. There is a feature request suggesting the implementation of such ability:

Maybe you can add the date range from October to December and add sub-tasks of what needs to be done during this period.

There is also a feature suggesting to show the date range for child issues on the roadmap:

Thanks a lot @Angélica Luz. I understand the feature request for Milestones might solve our problem. In case, you need to have discovery call to understand our pain points for the design process, let me know. We'd be happy to give our feedback, even to try and involve in the Usability Testing.
