In JIRA the thumbnails of images are showing as links that don't work

I use two different instances of JIRA. In one I use the feature of copying and pasting screenshots in the body of the description all the time. I can see the thumbnails beautifully.
In this different instance:
1. I cannot copy and paste the image. I must save the image as a file, then upload it. This is annoying but not as troublesome as #2.
2. While I am editing the description initially I can see the thumbnails of the images within the body. But after saving it, I only see these link-like strings. But copying the links without the extra characters in a browser does not show the images.
How do I get the thumbnail images to show inline the JIRA description? (like I am going to do here:)
