Importing a project without afecting existing projects

I'm trying to import a project from another Jira Cloud instance without affecting existing projects, but the imported information replace all the previous one. 
I'll appreciate any help.

How are you performing the import? 

The simplest way would be to export the issues from the project, create a new project and import the issues into that new project.

This may not bring in certain history. Is that what you care about?
