Importing UAT Test Cases from Excel into JIRA with multiple test steps across several rows

My team is preparing UAT test cases in Excel, and some of our test cases include multiple steps that must be listed across several rows. This seems to conflict with the recommended import format, where the import template expects one row per test case. Because of this, we’re concerned that the importer may not correctly associate multiple step rows with a single Jira test case.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Please advise on a workaround to import these test cases that contain multiple steps spread across multiple Excel rows into a single Jira issue.

I have come across a few articles suggesting that modifying the configuration file might be a possible workaround, but the guidance isn’t very clear. Any recommendations or best practices would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi @Moe Virima ,

Can you maybe share if your test cases are actually Jira work items or if you're using some Marketplace app for test management (e.g., Zephyr, Xray...)?

As you've mentioned the steps, I assume you might be using some additional add-on, and if that's the case, it would be best to reach out to the app vendor and check their documentation related to importing test cases and steps from Excel 👀

To circle back to native Jira importit's true that 1 Jira item = 1 row in the CSV. Some examples can be found in the provided link.

Cheers,
Tobi
