Images in comments -- how to ensure in-line access to "gallery" view

We've recently been experimenting with using Jira to iterate with our designers. They have been attaching images to comments as we iterate on designs, and I have been giving them feedback and passing the tickets back to them.

Both designers are on Mac, and I'm on Windows, and we are all using Chrome.

The issue we are having is that when the designers attach mockups to comments, the formatting is inserted like this:

Unlike when the images are added with thumbnail! when they are added to the comment this way, the image is too wide for the Jira comment view. More importantly, clicking it does nothing.

So, there's no way for me to see the image, unless I scroll back up to the body of the ticket, find the image name in all the attachments that have been added to the ticket, and open the "gallery view" from there.

Why won't Jira let me click the attachment in the comment so I can see it in "gallery" view? Why would it allow the image to be pasted in a way that it's only partially visible?

Note the scroll bar here -- clicking the image does not maximize it:

Other annoyances around this process include:

  • Why do I have different "Add Attachment" options from what my designers are seeing? My attachment option adds a thumbnail but my designer is seeing different UI
  • Why does the gallery view not offer sorting options or any information about date uploaded? What value does alphabetical sorting offer here? And why give me access to all the images attached to a ticket without providing the context I need to know whether I'm looking at the right image?

We use Jira for tracking development work, and were hoping to keep everything in one place with our design team as well, since most of the design work happening with product mgmt involves a very simple flow where mockups + feedback are posted, and tickets are passed back and forth until we know what we want to build. We have started exploring other options for this simple flow, but hopefully we are just missing something simple here.
