I would like to view the calendar on due date only for my epics, not the start date

Timeline provides the visibility of start and due dates for my epics. On the calendar view i am unable to filter the view solely on the due date for my epic. Instead, it replicates the timeline with start date and due date. Please can you support?

You’re completely right — Jira’s native calendar always forces the Start-to-Due date range bar when both dates are filled in, with no built-in way to show just the deadline.

I’m Anastasia from the Teamlead team, and we developed Calendar for Jira specifically to give teams full control over how their issues and epics are displayed.

You can solve this in just a few clicks without writing any JQL queries or complex setups:

1. Show deadlines only (no long bars):

When setting up a calendar, simply select Due date in the Date fields type setting (or pick Date field(s) and map only the End/Due date). This instantly removes the range bar and places each Epic strictly on its deadline day as a clean, single-day item.

2. Filter for Epics in 2 seconds:

Click the built-in Instant Filter (the funnel icon in the header) and check Issue Type: Epic. No manual JQL needed — it immediately hides all other tasks.

Bonus for visual clarity: You can also apply simple color rules to your issue cards (by status, priority, etc.) to make your Epic deadlines stand out even better on the grid.

Jira's built-in calendar always shows the full range when an epic has both a start date and a due date, and there is no setting to turn that off.

If a Marketplace app is an option for you, this is exactly what our app Calendar for Jira does. You choose which date fields the calendar is built on, and one field is
enough. Here the calendar is set to Due date only:

Each epic then appears as a single day on its deadline, with no start-to-due bar. You can also limit the view to epics with a filter and share the saved calendar with your

Hi @Cottam_ Oliver _GS_CITLICS_ ! The Calendar view in Jira Cloud currently displays epics using their scheduled date range (Start Date to Due Date). If your objective is to track upcoming epic deadlines, our tool ActivityTimeline can help here:

Milestones Panel — enable Configuration → Timeline Panel → Events → "Display Issues on Milestones Panel based on Due date". Your epics will then appear on the Milestones Panel (flag icon in the top toolbar) exactly on their Due Date — a clean deadline-only view above the timelines.

Deadline highlighting — the Deadline Warning Period setting emphasizes tasks approaching their due date, and the Overdue Issues Counter flags items with missed deadlines per user.

This way you keep the full Start–Due schedule on the timeline, while tracking deadlines separately by due date only. Hope this helps!

The Calendar view in Jira Cloud currently displays epics using their scheduled date range (Start Date to Due Date), similar to the Timeline view.

At present, there isn't a native option to display epics based solely on their Due Date. If your objective is to track upcoming epic deadlines, a filter or a dashboard gadget (Jira Issues Calendar) may be a better fit.
