I'm setting up a Company Managed board, I want to link Stories to Epics as Child Items but only 'Task' and 'Bug' are showing as options in the drop-down and it's defaulting to Bug when i want it to default to a Story.
How can i update this in the settings?
@Fiona Young Welcome to the community.
First, thing that you need to check before proceeding with whether the Story work type is available to your project or not? If yes, then you should be able to select the Story work type as a Child item in the EPic.
Also, check the work type configuration, anyway the Story, Task, Bug all are the default on the ZERO level but still check is that configuration have been changed by anyone from your admins.
I can setup Stories as a Work Item and i've configured specific properties for them, they're just not showing as an option on child work items at the epic level.
What does the ZERO level mean?
I'm the only admin working on the Jira setup right now but I'm quite new to Jira so have have fumbled through the initial setup and might have restricted this somehow. Any step by step guidance or video would be appreciated, i'm struggling to find anything this specific online

@Fiona Young If your project has the Story work type then you should able to select the Story type in the Epic as child.
Does both Epic and Story are in the same project?
I was talking about the work type hierarchy, in the below snaps if you see Story/ Task/ BUg are on the ZERO level and Epic is the FIRST and Initiative in on the SECOND.
STORY/TASK/BUG can be a child of EPIC and EPIC can be a child of Initiative but STORY/TASK/BUG can not be a child of Initiative directly.

Oh that looks like the right screen, how do i get to the work type hierarchy setting?
This is my project settings view:

@Fiona Young To check the Hierarchy you need to have Jira admin/Site admin rights and you just press CTRL+K and type work type hierarchy and select that you will be redirected to that page.
However, as far as i can see the work type scheme i can see that Story type is available in the project.
