I need to know if you can bypass inviting everyone on a trello board into a new Jira Project?

I'm importing issues from Trello and only want the issues to be mapped over without inviting everyone from Trello to Jira but it requires email addresses for all trello users, is there a way around this please?

Hi @nicola_furniss

You'd need to use the CSV / JSON Import.

Rather than using the standard import tool for Trello/Jira, instead export the data from Trello and import it into Jira using the External System Import. To do this:

  1. Export data from Trello - this article has some information on how to do this
  2. Once in excel, you'll need to align the Trello data to the fields on your Jira Projects - unlike with the standard import tool, you'll need to have these created
  3. Ensure the data meets the required standards for upload and then upload them

There's a very thorough description on how to setup your file on this page.

Using this method you can remove the field "Assignee" and not add all the new users to your Jira Instance - however, this does mean they won't be assigned to the issues as they won't hold user accounts. If their name is needed, you could create a free-text custom field and upload their name into it?

This answer also suggests its possible using email aliases, but not quite sure if it's the same thing - and I've not seen it work previously.
