I'm trying to create a "personal access token". The instructions on https://confluence.atlassian.com/enterprise/using-personal-access-tokens-1026032365.html say:
In Jira, select your avatar at the top right of the screen, then select Profile. Once you access your profile, select Personal access tokens in the left-hand menu.
Select Create token.
However when I do this I do not see a "left hand menu" or anything saying "Create token"
What am I missing?
thanks!
I was able to create an API token (which is apparently not quite the same thing as a Personal Access Token) from the link https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens. This looks as if it will work for automated access, so my problem may be solved. I'm still curious as to:
Any comments, suggestions, very welcome! thanks!
Hello @John Ashmead
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
The documentation link your provided in your original post is relevant only to Data Center application deployments.
Based on the link you provided in your Answer you are access a Cloud (software-as-a-service) deployment of the application.
So, the documentation you found is not applicable to the environment you are actually using.
Now that you know, make sure any future documentation you reference clearly states that it is applicable to Cloud rather than Data Center.

Oh and the difference between an API Token and a Personal Access Token is just a terminology difference between Atlassian Cloud and Data Center.
