I can't add new tickets in JIRA

Ryan Cho May 30, 2018

Hello,

I recently inherited this JIRA server and it seems like we have a number of problems. First, When I try accessing JIRA, I get the error message below.

Secondly, I am getting the following errors.

Jira Error Message 2.JPG

Can you please help?

@Ryan Cho - did you click on "Learn more"? Your database is configured wrong.

Ryan Cho May 30, 2018

Yes sir. I guess I just don't know enough to know even where to begin. I have decided to fix 1 issue at a time and have been focusing on the "SQL_Latin1_General" issue. I am currently having trouble even figuring out how to remove this collation or replace it with another one.

Hi @Ryan Cho,

since I'm not familiar with MSSQL databases and there seem to be some more problems in your installation, I would contact Atlassian Support directly:

https://support.atlassian.com/contact

They can have a look at your logfiles and I think it is easier than discussing them here.

Hey Thomas,

Thanks for your help but that link is how I posted my question here. that link just takes you to posting a question in the community.

Hi @Ryan Cho

What version of Microsoft's SQL server are you using?  I ask because we have a few different guides in regards to the different database versions that are actually supported by Jira, such as:

From looking at your screenshots, it seems like you have a number of problems in Jira that are all likely caused due to the settings chosen when creating that database for Jira.  If this is a new install, I'd recommend following the appropriate guide to create the database correctly, and start over with the installation using this newly created database.

If this is an existing Jira install or an upgrade (e.g.: with data you want to try to maintain), then let me know, I can send you some additional steps to try to maintain your existing data.

@Thomas Schlegel Thanks for responding here.  However users with starter licenses no longer have the ability to open support requests with Atlassian support directly. This was a change made back in July of 2017 to direct these requests here to Community.   In this case Ryan is one of these users, so by clicking that link his requests would just create a new community thread instead.

Hi @Andy Heinzer, I know this restriction, but I didn‘t know that @Ryan Cho has a starter license.

Maybe we can implement a special tag here, if users with starter licenses are redirected to Community for asking their question.

I thought they were tagged with "atlassian support" already?  Or is that a tag from a different source?

Ah, I didn't know that, but it makes sense (Although, there are posts from 2011 and 2012 with that tag). I think, the tag's name could be clearer then.
