I can see Sprint custom field for issues under one project but not under other project

Bhupesh Batish August 4, 2022

I have 2 Projects in my Jira cloud.
for first one I can see the Sprint Field under all the issues for that Project.
But for the second project I dont see the Sprint field under any issues. How can I make the change for the Sprint field to show up in the second project as well ?

@Bhupesh Batish

The Sprint field will be set up automatically when you create a Project using a Scrum board template. The field will not be activated automatically if you create a Project using Kanban, Bug, or other project templates.

Also, Scrum is not available if you create a Work Management type of project, as those types of projects are based on a subset of functionality that doesn't include the Agile features.

Looking at the navigation pane on the left, at the top under the Project Name does it say Business, Software, or Service?

And at the bottom of the same pane does it say company-managed or team-managed?

If you are working with a Software project that is Company Managed you can manually add a Scrum board to the project and that will enable the Sprint field in the issue types.

If you are working in a Team Managed project, you would go to Project Settings > Features and enable the Sprints feature to activate the field for that project.

Thanks for the response!!
It's a Software Project and is company managed. I understand that it can be done when manually adding a scrum board. But in this case the Project already exists and I don't see the Sprint field and I want to add it.

When you created the project which template did you use?

Is there already a Scrum board for the project? If not, why do you want to add the Sprint field?

You certainly can add the field without creating a Scrum board for the project, but why would you?

To add the field without creating a Scrum board, add the Field to the Screens that are associated with the project. From the Project Settings > Summary page you can find the Issue Type Screen Scheme associated with the project. Then go to the gear icon and select Issues. From the new Navigation pane on the left select Issue Type Screen Schemes and select the one associated with the project. From there you can drill into the Screen Schemes included in the Issue Type Screen Scheme, and into the screens in each Screen Scheme, and add the Sprint field to the screen.

Hi @Bhupesh Batish welcome to the Atlassian community.

Please be informed, "Sprint" is not a custom field. It is enabled by default when you create the backlog using the "Scrum template".

But would you please elaborate your query with more details?

I have a project on my Jira board where if I select any Bug/Issue/Story, I dont see an option of allotting the Sprint to them there and then.
where as in another project I can do that for all the issues.

Its really convenient if I am able to select a Sprint from the issue itself.Screen Shot 2022-08-04 at 4.10.54 PM.png

Actually Sprint does come up in the Custom Fields list. It is not part of Jira Core and is a "custom" field added by Jira Software. And it is also possible to define your own custom field with the same name - "Sprint" (though this seems like a bad idea to me).
