I can add a child from another project however the list view only shows children from that project

Sean H_ September 2, 2024

Here's the use case:

  • I really really like managing from the list view
  • I'm working two closely related projects that I can't combine for internal reasons
  • There are a lot of overlapping tasks
  • I can link them but it doesn't help in the list view

I can relate tickets from the other projects to my Epic (parent). I can see it in the Epic itself.

Is there a way to include "adopted" children in the list view?

I suspect the answer is no but want to make sure before I add to the wish-list :)

Cheers, Sean

Hi @Sean H_ and welcome to the Community!

I'm afraid you've answered your own question there - the list view is (currently) limited to a single project indeed. See this announcement article from when it was launched in Jira Software projects

Hope this helps!

Hi @Sean H_

welcome to the community!

As @Walter Buggenhout pointed out, the list view always only shows the issues of the given project.

I don't know if this problem justifies additional tooling for you, but just to put it out there: If you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a long list of advanced features, including support for (configurable) issue hierarchiesissue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting.

Plus, as every sheet in JXL is powered by a JQL query or a saved filter, it can include issues from any number of projects.

This is how it looks in action:

(Note how the epic from PROJA contains stories and sub-tasks from project WORK.)

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes

Hi @Sean H_

Welcome to the Atlassian community !!

If you would like to try out an add-on for this use case, pls take a look at

Issue Hierarchy

The app shows your issue hierarchy in a tree view created through Issue Links. The Issues in the tree can be in multiple projects and the app will pull out each one of them and show you a structured hierarchy.

The app has multiple other features which are very useful in project tracking and management.

(Disclaimer: I work on RVS, the vendor for this app)
