I am having trouble getting sub tasks to work within stories. Difficulty assigning workflows

I follow the documentation but cant seem to be able to associate a workflow with project. What I need is for stories, spikes and bugs to support subtasks

For most Jira usage, you create a workflow, reference it in a workflow scheme (these say "for issue type X, use workflow Y") and then associate the scheme with the project.

The exception is Cloud "next-gen" projects, where your people set their workflow themselves.

Could you tell us where you are stuck with the workflow scheme (assuming it's not "Cloud next-gen")?

Thank you for getting back. I have the issue types associated with the scheme Builds Workflow. How do I activate the scheme?

Go to the project admin and select the new workflow scheme which holds the association.
