I am building a dashboard and want to show the description from an issue. This particular issue is an initiative used to anchor all of the epics for a project and its description contains a short overview of the project. 

I am thinking there must be a gadget that can do this but have not found one. I want the initiative's description to remain as the source of truth and not need to transcribe changes if they occur.

Filter results gadget can help you with this. In the gadget settings add Description field and it should show the description column for all the tickets.
