Howto hide "Done" issues from a plan

Otto Mertz May 7, 2025

I have a setup in 5 levels, Initiative, Phase, Epic, Task and Subtask. The Phases are in a different Jira project than the Initiative, therefor I have created a plan to show it all together.

I would like to filter away issues if the issue itself and the connected child issues below are done.

I have tried to setup the filter below "Filters" and marked the field "Show full hierarchy", but "Done" issues are still shown (Not grayed!).

Am I doing something wrong or is it not possible in my setup?

Hi @Otto Mertz

In the filters list there is a filter for statuses, in there you can choose which statuses to show on you plan

@Otto Mertz Outside of the filter, there is another setting that affects how long Done issues show on the plan after they're done.

Under Plan Settings look at Exclusion Rules:

Hi Otto,

I see you've found the exclude done issues after x days option in the settings which has solved your problem. Just to provide some additional context around what you were seeing in the filters of the Plan for your future reference:

The behaviour of the Filter menu in Plans is that if a work item matches the filter, all Parent work items are also included in the scope. This is to avoid giving the impression that a particular work item does not have a parent.

At the same time, by default the "Show full hierarchy" checkbox at the bottom of the menu is ticked by default. When ticked, this will include all descendant work items regardless of whether those child work items match the filter or not. It may help you in this case to untick the "Show full hierarchy" checkbox.
