How to write a global rule assigning different people with the same role in different projects

Hi,

I wonder if it's possible to create the global rule when the task will be automatically assigned to QA after moving the task to the right column. The problem is we have different QA for different projects. Maybe I can use the role? Or at least prepare the global rule in which the Project Manager will have to only choose the right person to assign.

It is my first question on the forum, so if I've made something wrong, please forgive me.

Hello @Michał Kukuł

Before settling on trying to create a global/multi-project rule, consider how many times the rule might be triggered. In the Standard plan you are allowed 500 global/multi-project rule executions per month.

If that is acceptable, then you can do this through Automation.

You can use the Issue Transitioned rule tas the trigger, selecting the statuses that represent the QA column for the issues.

You can use the Assign Issue action to assign the issue to a user. There is an option to select a user from a Role in the project.

Because Roles may have more than one user in them, you have to specify a method for selecting which user. In your projects you say you'll have only one person in the role, so it doesn't matter which method you select.

Hi @Michał Kukuł , congrats on asking your first question on the Atlassian Community!

If the person who performs the QA is different for each project:

  1. Create a new custom field type user called 'QA' or something similar
  2. Create a new screen and add this custom field to the screen, you can name it 'Transition Screen - Assign to QA" f.e.
  3. In the workflow Add the screen to the transition between the two statuses where the QA needs to be filled in.

When moving a task from a column to the "QA" column, a pop-up dialog window will appear asking the Project Manager to choose the right QA.

Thanks :)

It is not quite what I would like to achieve. From what I understand, I would have to select a QA for each task in your solution.

We have X projects and Y testers. One tester may have several projects, but we always have 1 tester per project. And I would like to always assign him to all tasks in that project after moving tasks to a QA column (without having to do it for each task separately).

For one project, I can make:
Issue transitioned from Code Review to status QA -> then change issue (Assignee field) and assign specific person.

I wonder if I can make it more global where i.e. PM only changes the specific person? Or it will automatically choose the person with a QA role in the project.

I would like to avoid creating a separate rule for each project.
