How to use ldap ssl with Jira

We would like to use ldap over ssl to authenticate users against AD.

Please provide/share the process to enable it

Have a read through https://confluence.atlassian.com/jira/configuring-an-ssl-connection-to-active-directory-229838539.html (it's for JIRA 6.4, but it's good for most versions of JIRA 4 through to 7)
