How to remove a parent epic from an issue using API?

I am using edit issue metadata to grab the permissible fields for update, but when I pass null value in either Epic link or Parent, it throws an error.

Which API should be used to remove the Parent epic/ Epic Link???

1. Which API endpoint did you try using to update (edit) the Issue?
2. What was the body of the request you tried to set the Parent field to null?
3. What was the actual error message you got?

Since you haven't provided an actual example of the whole request, with the full path, parameters, body and response, there is no way for anyone to even guess.

Also, the Epic Link field was deprecated ages ago, so you shouldn't be using it.
