How to make issues appear in version panel when using a custom version picker.

Hello,

I created a custom field of type Version Picker to track addition parallel versions. Field works fine.
When going either to backlog or the releases hub, the version/releases using that custom field are empty. 

How can i make those versions pull data from the custom field and not the Fix Version field.
I want to see my issues in the version. There will be no reporting or anything. I just want JIRA to list the issues in that view.
