Hi,

We are using Jira since a day, just exploring possibilities. Now we want to create tasks with subtasks. But it keeps attaching the subtask to the task, while I do want to have the relation between the two, but also need to be able to move them separately.

Could someone help me doing it?

@Marc Lonsain welcome to the community,

A subtask cannot exist without a task (or other issuetype) above it. So they cannot stand on their own.

If you need to have something that can relate to one another you can do Linked Issues between different issue types (but not subtasks, those will always be linked underneath another issuetype)

You should think of a Jira sub-task as being a fragment of its parent story.

A simple analogy might be "Story = jigsaw, sub-task =  single piece"

It sounds like you just want to create another task and not a sub-task.  The sub in sub-task implies it is part of another task.
