How to export a snapshot from production and import it into dev environment?

Julian Butler January 2, 2024

Looking for help with taking a copy of our production environment and importing it to our development environment so that our DEV environment is a direct copy of our PROD environment. Both servers are on Linux boxes.

Hi @Julian Butler

How often do you plan on doing it?

If you plan on doing it often then i would recommend looking at plugins for it. Otherwise what type of data are you looking to transfer? The reason I ask is generally in a dev environment it isn't recommended to have the issues and some other data like user data transferred per best security practices and depending on your plugin configurations as well those will have an impact too

We have a process at my company but because of our custom environment, which really everyone has in someway the instructions i provide may not work. But if you provide more specifics and details about your setup better instructions can be provided

Generally i would recommend using configuration manager for Jira, that's the plugin we use but there are other even more automated ways to do it

Hey @Clark Everson

As of right now it will be a one time process. We are currently on Server and preparing to switch to Data Center. We want to take all of the new projects we created and import them into DEV. We do not want to import any issues/tickets over to DEV. Is there a way to do this from the server itself?
