Hi,
I'm wasting time clicking individual up/down arrows in my Epics tree lists.
Is there a shortcut/button/method to open/close ALL epics in 1 go, to show/hide ALL the issues that are nested inside the Epics (inside the tree headers), on Jira interfaces?
I can't find it.
If it doesn't exist, where/how can I request this feature?
Many thanks, Carin
There are three different flavors of Roadmaps in Jira Cloud. I'm not sure which one you mean, but I know this frustration.
Here's a screenshot from a Company-Managed (Classic) Project's Advanced Roadmap, showing where to find the Expand / Collapse actions:
In words: The title of the "Issue" column is actually a drop-down that offers these actions.
Hi again @Carin Campanario it looks like you are in a Team-Managed Project (not a Company-Managed Project). Perhaps you can confirm that this header and footer match what you are seeing:
And you're right, that expand/collapse feature does NOT appear to be available in the Basic Roadmap offered in Team-Managed Projects (TMPs, formerly known as NextGen projects).
My screen-shot came from an Advanced Roadmap, which is a standard feature in Jira Premium for Company-Managed Projects.
I believe the intention is that TMPs have a streamlined (simpler) interface all-around, with some basic customization features.
I wasn't able to find any keyboard shortcuts or alternatives to expand or collapse everything. Sorry!
I also searched the JAC for any existing Product Suggestion like this (because then you could at least vote for it). I didn't find one, but feel free to submit one! Tell Atlassian you would like to see this feature. Go here to do that:
https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/
If you do that, be sure to vote for it and Watch it for future activity, AND post the link to it in this thread, so that others can vote for it. The more votes, the more likely it is that Atlassian will take action on the suggestion.

Hi Mykenna,
Thank you so much for trying to help. I have the header (rather feature-less) but not the footer (mine indicates that it's company-managed) - see image below.
Should I start a new company-managed project from scratch (but which way, to get the expand/collapse feature?) and copy all my issues and epics over to it (I assume I can transfer them?)?
Best wishes, Carin

Ok, then the most likely explanation is that your Jira Cloud version is actually Free or Standard, and not Premium (or Enterprise). As shown here:
https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/pricing
(see the row for "Roadmaps") only Basic Roadmaps are offered for the first two Plan types.
Advanced Roadmaps are available in the Jira Premium plan and above.
How can you tell? You probably can't (without Jira Admin privs). Asking your Jira Admin (or maybe someone in Accounting who pays for Jira, and might be able to see a bill).
Sorry for the upsell. I don't work for Atlassian, I'm just a volunteer!

Hi Mykenna,
After sharing your info with the Admin, I was pointed to the 'Plans' feature in the header:
I would never have guessed that 'Plans' had anything to do with 'Advanced Roadmaps ', but it's the key! See video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJ-RmFwEVjM
After creating a new 'plan' with my board, all my epics and issues are now in the advanced roadmap and I can collapse/expand all epic as I wanted to - yay! 🙂
Thank you for helping me. The same admin had previously told me that collapse/expand wasn't possible, so without your help this newbie would not have found it. 😁
Best wishes, Carin

I'm glad you solved your mystery. Accessing an Advanced Roadmap through the "Plans" drop-down gives you all the access to the plan you are allowed.
For most of our projects, that approach offers a read/write version of the Roadmap (since we let team members update the plan). Separate permissions settings are available for Advanced Roadmaps.
We also use the "Share" feature of an Advanced Roadmap to put a sidebar shortcut on the Project Board, which provides a read-only link to one view of the Roadmap. That can be handy for stakeholders and other leaders (or to just prevent accidental changes to the Roadmap).
I guess I'm still confused by what you described with your initial posting. In my experience, that expand/contract functionality is available regardess of whether you access an Advanced Roadmap via the "Plans" drop-down or via a "Share" link.

Don't know how to get it via a "Share" link, but I'm happy with the 'plan' 🙂

Hi Mykenna,
Thanks - that feature is indeed EXACTLY what I'm looking for, but I don't have it. Do you know if/how I can add this feature to my current Roadmap interface?
Not sure which Roadmap flavor my company set up for me, for my company-managed project, but it only these features:
Hope you can help me?
Many thanks, Carin
