How to enable adding attachments on Jira

Dimple March 30, 2020

Hi all,

Previously, my team was using a next-gen board and we were able to add attachments in any user story which was useful for our reference. We then moved to the classic board because it seemed better for what we needed and we can't add attachments anymore in our user stories. Does anyone know how to enable this and / or if its possible?

Any tips welcomed!

How are you trying to add attachments? In the issue detail view you can drag and drop or click the paper clip.

It doesn't allow me to. That's how we did it in our previous board. If I drag and drop now, it  goes into my browser's downloads. We don't have a paper clip icon.

Check the Permissions to ensure the team has the permission to create, etc.

then you should see this...

I myself have admin level permissions and I can't add attachments. I went to the Attachment permissions and can't edit this here.

What does your permission show for Attachments? Screenshot? If you cannot edit then you need your system admin to do so.

Hi Jack,

Please see the screenshot. I have the role of administrator and so does another person in my team. We're both unable to add attachments so I still don't know what to do.

Are you in the DMT VDU group? If not then you will not be able to add attachments according to the screenshot you provided.

Indeed, I was looking at that. But who is able to change this? An application admin? I don't know where to edit this.

If you are a project admin you should be able to edit the permissions. If not check with your system admin.

If I did have the rights, I should be able to edit the permissions on this page itself you think?

Correct, in the top left you should see Actions as below
