×Our Jira board was set up by a guy who no longer works here. He set up the boards so that 9 different people are all set as watchers by default to every ticket that is opened. Over half of these watchers need to be removed all together as they are no longer on this team, or for some no longer employed with the company.
I've found several supposed ways to change these default watchers, but the first six have all failed.
This is normally done by either an automation or a post-function in the workflow.
First check the automations, check any adding watchers and modify it.
For post functions, check the CREATE transition.
