How to disable preview panel of linked work items

Suzanne Cranfield November 26, 2025

Expected functionality
When clicking on a linked work item in a Jira issue the same browser screen would update, opening the linked work item.

Change to expected functionality

Since today, when clicking on a linked work item, a preview panel opens of the linked item to the right hand side of the main issue.
My users do not like this.

I cannot find a way of disabling the preview panel.
Under personal settings - Jira Labs I switched off "New work transition experience" but that does not seem to have impacted the results.

We are running Jira Cloud

Is it possible to disable the panel preview feature?

Dear @Suzanne Cranfield

You can force a new browser tab by clicking the linked item while holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard.

Hope this helps

Thanks Enric,
That much we know.
But my colleague wants the previous functionality to work where one click on the linked issue opens the linked issue in the same browser tab.
Maybe he will have to learn to work differently...

But thanks anyway for your response.

Hi @Suzanne Cranfield

Use the arrows option in the preview issue.

This will open the item in full vie, this will keep doing this until you use the arrows option again in an issue, then items will be opening in the sidebar.
