Each time a screen is created, a "Comment" field is added automatically.
And this "Comment" field is also added in the screen tabs.
It's been awhile from previous reply here, so I hppe we are all good?
This issue seems to be discussed earlier but was introduced to me today after I raised an concern about Comment field in my Jira project issue edit/ View screens.
As a Jira project owner and Issue handling process owner, I cannot accept this solution as Comment in Edit/View screen do not add value. It is pure waste, as far as I can see it. Thus I want to escalate this finding to Jira developers.
Our users in our project they are reading, editing and adding comments from a main page where issue summary and all comments are present. That's only place where people can see big-picture and make relevant reply as a comment.
Customizing the screen is not an option, as it requires unnecessary actions from users which we do not want to document. It is too much for me to provide a guidance for Jira project user to hide Comment field from their screens
My proposal, is to remove Comment field from screen default fields. It is expected that Comment field can be added to screen as any other field when needed.
@Mikael Sandberg and @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- please advice what shall I do to share my feedback and to request screen default behavior to chance (to exclude Comment field) for good?
This has not changed - comments are not a field, they are a function.
Atlassian are not going to rewrite the comment functionality to make it more field-like, it is working well, and as intended, for the overwhelming majority of their customers since Jira was first written. It is very useful in the edit screen because people often want to explain their edits, and it's essential in the view screen because comments are the conversation about the story.
You can raise it as a suggestion in JaC, but it's likely to be closed as "won't do".
If you don't want to make use of comments in your project, that's fine. Probably quite bad for your users who want to talk about an issue, but you can do it. Remove their permissions to make comments, and the comment "field" will disappear in edit screens, and the option will vanish from the menu.
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
By removing their permissions do not solve the problem either, as we want people to add comments. Using comments is valuable functionality, but it is obvious that Comment is not valuable for Edit screen, as there users do not see the big picture.
I'm sorry @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- I do not agree with you and I still want to show my feedback to service owners and request a change.
So how should I proceed from here?

It's always good to hear different opinions, being disagreed with is a good thing, it helps us re-evaluate, update and learn.
The link in my comment will take you to the place where you can make suggestions to Atlassian (it's only for Server systems though, in Cloud, they ask you to use "Give feedback about" in the help menu)

The comments are not a field, they are a system function, not part of a screen.
They will only be offered for entry if the user has "comment on issue" permission on the issue. So if you don't want people commenting, turn off their permission to do so.

Hi @mg.rullier,
Welcome to Atlassian Community!
The short answer is that you cannot remove the comment field. The comment field will always be added to a transition screen.
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
