How to create embedded modules?

Trying to have a module link to an embedded module list like the following

I have looked at the documentation and have seen the webItem and webSection stuff but when I drop the example into my Atlassian Connect plugin it doesn't seem to work. 

Does anyone have an example of how I could get the above working for my own generalPages?
