You can check the board configuration, if your using Kanban board. you can move the backlog status from Kanban backlog to the board column.

You can leave the workflow as is and create an Automation Rule that based on an Issue Create trigger. Then add any Condition(s) needed to identify those issues that should move to the board.
Then add an action for Transition Issue and use the first status (probably the next one) that is on the board.
