How to copy a value from a child issue to a new child issue under the same parent

I have a parent profile (Issue-123) that has a child issue under it (Issue-456).  When I create a new child issue (Issue-678), that is the same issue type, I want to copy values from the previous child issue (Issue-456) and put them in the new child issue (Issue-678).  How can I accomplish this?

Have you considered cloning the initial child instead of creating a new issue?

I hadn't but that might be a workaround.
