How to clone Jira issue but in different project.

Deleted user September 24, 2020

we are trying to clone the Jira issue, but there are two different projects or teams working on it separately. I do not want to copy every field of the original issue. How do I clone the issue in a different project?

Hi @[deleted]

Welcome to the community.

You can clone, then move, an issue - but cannot do it in one step

Thanks, Liam

The answer updated suddenly, so I figured it out myself. But thanks for your answer anyway. Appreciate the liveliness of the community.

A clone copies all the current data - that's the point of cloning, not picking arbitrary bits out.

Copying into another project requires thought - unless the target has exactly the same configuration as the target, you could need to amend or even delete data from the issue as it goes over.

Because it is complex, Atlassian have not done it.  You would need to use Clone to get a clone in the current project, then use "move issue" to take it over to the other project, and follow that through the integrity checks and updates that the move process requires.

There are some apps in the marketplace that can help though - look for "clone and move"

Hi @[deleted] ,

You can clone an issue to a different project with the help of Clone plus for Jira app. With this app, you can create clone operation and configure clone options, target project, issue type, copy comments, copy attachments, and more.

Please refer to the below KB article on how to clone an issue to a different project.

Hope it helps!!

Thanks,
Raja
