How to change user aliases that show in square brackets in the activity log?

I wonder if there is a way of changing the text in square brackets that is shown to the right of the user name in the activity log.

Screenshot attached, please see the highlighted parts with numbers 1 and 2.

Don't know how it come, but in case of some users the text in the brackets refers to another user (while the correct user name is provided to the left of the brackets, see 1 in my screenshot). This may by misleading.

In other cases the text in the brackets is just an ID (see 2 in my screenshot). This is not misleading, but a bit inconsistent.

For the majority of users the text in brackets corresponds with their user names, so it is OK.
