I know that there are settings to do change the card layout through Board => Board Settings => Card Layout. The problem is that there is no option to add the parent user story. There is 'Parent Link' which shows NONE on the card, for the tasks that does have a parent.
@Vinicius Kienen, i'm a bit confused here. As you noted Parent Link can be added to the card. The way it should work (have not tested) is as follows:
is this not what is happening or what you are aiming for?
Hi Jack, first of all, thank you for the virtually immediate response - I am so used to bad customer support that I must say I am a bit surprised by the response time here :)
The behaviour you mention is the one I expect as well, but it is not what is actually happening. I hope I can make it crystal clear with the screenshot down here.
Note that the subtask does not show its parent CW-3 (user story) as expected.

@Vinicius Kienen, so it appears Parent Link is associated w/ Portfolio. See this article Showing Portfolio custom fields in Jira software. So unless you are using Portfolio it will not work. FWIW, i did find it odd that the field exists in Jira and I can even write a JQL like parentlink is no EMPTY but when I display that field in my resulting query there are not values. :-)
What I suggest you look into is creating a custom field for your sub-task and copying the parent issue into that field when the sub-task is created. You can do this by setting up the a post function (Copy Value from Other Field) to copy the issuekey from the parent to the sub-task. I believe this would work.
hope this helps and good luck!!

You're a legend :D btw just realised you're not support, but community :P :P guess you can see im new here.
Thank you, we are using Portfolio but still does not work well. I've discovered this 'Copy Value from Other Field' thing and it actually worked well.
Not as straightforward as one would expect, but at least is done.
