How to add the parent field in a jira notification ?

Nataliya Siryachenko May 2, 2024

Hi :)

I would love to add the parent field in a Jira Notification.

For example to let users know the subtask of what parent was ; assigned, edited.. whatever the trigger is.

Currently we can only see the description and the key but displaying the parent would greatly improve our notifications.

Thank you!

Note that we are functioning in a team managed software project.

@Nataliya Siryachenko

Hi there. Am I correct in understanding that you would like to include the parent link when sending notifications about changes made to the subtask?

If so, this is not available with the out of the box notifications sent by the notification scheme. You could however include this on custom generated emails triggered using Automation for Jira. You should be able to include it using the smart value {{issue.parent.key}}. Have you used automation for Jira to send emails before?

Thanks,

Kian

Hi Kian!

Thank you for your answer.

Yes, exactly.

I have explored automations but not too much. Do you know wher eI can find tmeplates for this kind of automation ?

For example, if I create an automation when an issue is updated:

The issue: {{issue.summary}} of ({{issue.parent.key}})({{issue.parent.displayname}}) was updated.

Do you think that would work ?

Yeah, something like that would work. You could check out this rule to get an idea of how emails can be sent and formatted.
