I have two thoughts:

Could you be looking at the sub-tasks of the issue?  This is not a field, it is a list of issues that are part of the issue.

If "sub-story" really is a field, then it is a custom-field.  It is possible to have custom-fields that appear in reports and on issues, but cannot be searched.  To check if this is the case, log in as an admin, go to the list of custom fields and find "sub-story".  To the right, you'll see options to edit and configure the field.  Use edit, where you'll find you can change the name, description and searcher.  A field that can be used, but not searched, will have no searcher set.  To enable search, select a new searcher, save the change, and re-index the project(s) using the field, or the entire system.

Hi @xiaoming lin ,

please could you share a screenshot of your custom field settings?

@xiaoming lin Is it a custom field or is it a issue type?  Have you checked to see if it is included in the TYPES drop down when you are searching for issues?
