How to GroupBy dev-owner tickets in backlog?

Lokesh Gupta September 21, 2022

Each row in backlog row currently shows assignees, ticket type, priority etc.

I want this to show dev-owner as well -> and then group the tickets by dev owners. So we have all the ticekts in one go for  particular dev.

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

The dev-owner display is possible - go to board settings (backlogs are actually one facet of a "board"), and go to "card layout".  One section in there is the list of extra fields you can display in the backlog.  You should be able to add dev-owner in there.

The bad news is that backlog has no "group by" function.  You can sort it by anything you want, by changing the board filter to include dev-owner in the sort order, but if you do that, you will no longer be able to rank the issues.

Hi @Lokesh Gupta

if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you might like the app that my team is working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting and filtering by all your issue fields. It also comes with advanced features such as grouping (among many others): You can group by a single field, or by multiple fields (resulting in a nested grouping), and even combine grouping with issue hierarchies.

This is how grouping by assignee looks in action:

You could now use JXL's inline editing capabilities to perform various backlog management tasks, e.g. to quickly estimate issues, assign issues to sprints or people, move them to another status, etc. etc. I should add that you can't currently change the rank of your issues - though that is something that will become possible soon.

Hope this is helpful,

Best,

Hannes
