How to Deactivate and Cancel Free Jira Accounts

Nancy Wright
March 25, 2026

Years ago, I started a free Jira account for my business, Wright Path Corp with wrightpathcorp.atlassian.net.

Earlier this year, I retired, so I changed my account contact email to my personal one, wrightnkk@sbcglobal.net.  Somehow in that process, I also started a free Jira account with wrightnkk.atlassian.net.  In the admin space, they seem to be looped together.

Bottom line, I don't want either free Jira account.  I can use free Trello for what I need for my new hobby, using wrightnkk as my account.

Help!  Can you give me instructions on how to close down both free Jira accounts and leave me with just the Trello account?  Or whatever the solution is?  Thank you.

This can definitely get confusing with multiple Atlassian sites tied to one account.

You’ll likely need to:

Go into Atlassian Admin → Billing → Manage subscriptions and cancel Jira for both sites

Then delete each site from Admin → Settings → Delete site

Make sure your account isn’t set as an org admin anywhere before deleting

Your Trello account should stay unaffected since it’s managed separately under the same Atlassian account.

If they’re “looped,” it might be worth contacting Atlassian support, who can cleanly separate or remove both sites without risking your Trello access

Thank you, Mr. John.  I'd love to speak directly with Atlassian Support but can't locate anything except these Community pages. How do I call them directly?

Hello @Nancy Wright

If you have a Jira subscription associated with an email account you will first have to cancel your Jira subscription. It can take some time for Atlassian to fully process the cancellation request and permanently delete the subscription and all data within the subscription. While that is happening your email will remain as the Billing Contact for the subscription and you won't be able to delete the login account for that email.

When your login accounts associated with the emails are no longer the last Billing Contacts for a subscription then the login accounts can be deleted.

You can find more information about that here:

Thanks, Trudy. I found that loop, but here's what happens. When I navigate to my (free) Subscription list, there is no Manage option.  Since I'm the only user AND the one who set up both accounts, I know I have Admin rights and am considered the Owner. No matter which way I try to access my Admin info, I can't seem to find a way to cancel.  I'm fine with losing data and also ok with waiting.  I just can't figure out how to get the process started.

Hello Nancy,

When was the last time you accessed the Jira instance? If it has been an extended period of time, Atlassian has a policy of automatically deactivating inactive Free subscriptions. They send warning emails to the Organization Admin before doing so, and on the day of deactivation.

So, your subscription may have already been deactivated.

Try the steps for deleting your login account. If you are still a Billing Admin/Contact for an active or inactive but not deleted subscription, then you will see a message to that affect.

I know that they're both active.  I attached a screen shot to my earlier reply, but I don't see that it posted.

I'd love to speak directly with Atlassian Support but can't locate anything except these Community pages.

Hello Nancy,

Atlassian does not offer telephone support as a first option except for Enterprise customers. The first step in getting support from Atlassian is to open a support case

Unfortunately they don't allow customers that use only free subscriptions to open support cases, and redirect such customers here to the user community.

Since we can't see the image, can be you tell us the steps you execute? Or try posting the image again.

That's what I guessed since every Contact Us request landed me back here!  Not that you all aren't helpful ...

I finally found another way in to the Admin area and was able to deactivate each of the Jira accounts and it appears that my Trello account is still there with my data.

To be honest, none of Atlassian's articles helped.  It was just my persistence clicking around over several hours.

I'll see what tomorrow brings!  Thanks for your help.
