How does the Create ticket (+ button) from inside a column in Kanban board work?

Hello!

Inside our Kanban board, in the column, sometimes, there is a Create ticket button. I'm having a hard time understanding when it works and when it doesn't.

In the board example in my screenshot, I have many other Work type that won't show up as an option in the Create button (for example Bug or Task).

I've ruled out:

  • I've tested in different Company Managed Kanban boards.
  • The problematic Work type workflow can be transitioned from any other state ("All")
  • No workflow automations are set that would conflict, causing them to not show up
  • I'm able to create a Work item and set directly to different statuses as well

Any help on this would be appreciated!

Hi Roy,

The issue types that doesn't show up in the list when you click on Create+ from the board, do they perhaps have a different workflow? And their start status in the workflow is backlog.

My guess is that the worktypes I can see in your example have an open workflow where you move issues between what ever status you'd like. That's why you can't create bugs and storys from the board, because their first status is always backlog and that is not a column in this board since that status is mapped to the backlog

Hope this helped

Hello Maja!

Unfortunately, they have similar Workflows (Create from Backlog, can be transitioned into any other).

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding you.

Thanks a lot for the advices!

That looks good!

I made some test in my own instance, and one way that I could recreate your problem was when the filter for the board was excluding sub-task. So perhaps look at the filter for your board and see if it's excluding anything.

Thanks a lot Maja! Unfortunately, our boards don't exclude sub-tasks, but good idea about exploring it on an isolated instance.

I'll try this out and see if I can find some patterns. Its unfortunate that its not so clear how this feature works.

I agree. But today I actually asked Rovo straight away and got sent to this article that explained it!

Hello!

Thanks Maja! I didn't get that response from my Rovo query but I assume I wasn't specific enough in how I prompted!

In my case, for some weird reason, I wasn't allowed to have any specific Transitions (like A to B, or C to A), even if I also had Allow work items in any status to move to this one toggle for my statuses.

So what helped in the end was to only use Allow work items in any status to move to this one.

I appreciate your help with this, have a nice Easter!
