How does one change the JIRA interface language ?

I just created my Atlassian account.  The JIRA GUI is in French.  I understand French very well but I want JIRA in English.  I changed the language to English on the preferences screen but the JIRA screens and menus are still all in French.  How to you change the JIRA screens language ?
